Sales and Policies

Owning any livestock animals is a serious and large responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Here at The Forsyth Homestead, we strive for healthy and friendly animals based on the consumer’s need. Our animals are offered as performance animals, pets, 4-H/FFA projects and family milkers. Our dairy goats are NOT meat animals.

Reservations:

Reservations are free. If you are looking to add a pig to your farm, please contact us to be put on our list. Once piglets are born, we will evaluate and contact the reservation list in order. Forsyth Homestead reserves the right to retain any piglets that comes out of our sows for our own farm. When placing your reservation, you can let us know your first and second choice, or what you’re looking to add. We will make a note of what you’re looking for and always do our best to accommodate that.

Pricing and Deposits

Pricing is based on many factors including the dam/sire, performance, and quality. Registered breeding stock begins around $500, pet/meat quality barrows are $200.

After a piglet is born and it is decided that you’d like to move forward, we will require 50% to be held as a deposit. Deposits are non-refundable but can be applied to a future piglet of your choice. If something happens to the piglet before the purchase is complete (illness, injury, etc), your deposit can be refunded or applied to a future piglet of your choice.

Visiting the Farm

A buyer may visit their piglet(s) and/or kid(s) upon request. You must contact us and visit only when we are present and available. Please keep in mind that we are busy homesteaders and not available 24/7. Visits will only be allowed during daytime hours and at our discretion.

Pick up

Pick up must be within two weeks of the piglet reaching weaned age or 2 weeks within a deposit being put on the animal if they are already weaned. At the time of pickup, the remaining 50% is due. All animals MUST be paid in FULL before leaving the farm. Payment is accepted via cash, Venmo or PayPal.

Forsyth Homestead has the final say in who purchases an animal and we have the right to decline a sale. We care for each and every one of our animals, as they are more than just pigs and goats to us.

Please remember this is our home, we need to have our farm operating in normal business hours. This means that pick ups and farm visits MUST be during daylight hours only.

Registration

Forsyth Homestead is a member of AKKPS and ADGA. Piglets will be listed as registered or not. All unregistered male piglets will be castrated before leaving the farm. Any breeding quality piglets will be registered through AKKPS and sold as such.

Please Note:

We will not allow kids to leave until 8 to 10 weeks of age unless otherwise determined by Forsyth Homestead. This gives the proper amount of time for weaning and health evaluations. Piglets will be given 2 doses of Circumvent Vaccine and Ivermectin or another dewormer before leaving the farm. Males who are being sold as meat/pets will be fixed before leaving as well.

Goat kids will be vaccinated for CDT and given coccidiosis prevention. Kids will be sold dis-budded and banded if they are a wether.

Any kids that remain on our property past 12 weeks of age will be subjected to a daily boarding fee unless otherwise discussed.

Mentoring and future help

We know there is a lot of value in having a mentor for future questions. We will send you home with general care information based on what we have found works best. But please do not hesitate to contact us with future questions regarding your goats. We strongly recommend finding a vet before you bring home your first pig or goat if you don’t have one already. We encourage you to reach out with questions at any time. We would not have had so much success with our animals if it wasn’t for our mentors and friends helping us along the way. We hope to pass that along to others.

References

We want to ensure our animals are going to the best possible home. If you do not already own pigs or goats, we may ask to see your set up before bringing your goat home. If you do already own one or both, we may ask for mentor, breeder or vet references. This is a case by case basis.
